The Coat of Arms of Weiden

Wappen der Stadt Weiden in der Oberpfalz

Description of the coat of arms:
“Divided and split at the top; the front shows a black and golden lion with a red crown and a red garb; in the background, the Bavarian lozenges; at the bottom, a green willow atop a green hill.”

The word Weiden derives from the German word for ‘willow’ (German: ‘Weide’). The tree first appeared solely on a seal from the early 15th century. The Palatinate prince elector Ludwig V changed Weiden’s coat of arms by adding the Bavarian lozenges and Lion of Palatine.
